Abu Dhabi: Since the start of 2025, the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has shut down 12 restaurants and food outlets for serious health and safety violations.
These closures all took place during the first quarter of the year across the emirate—in areas such as Hamdan Street, Khalidiya, Mussafah Industrial Area, Al Ajban, Al Shahama and Mohammed Bin Zayed City.
ADAFSA intensified its routine inspection campaigns under Law No. (2) of 2008, sending food safety inspectors into kitchens, supermarkets, poultry farms and groceries. According to an ADAFSA report released on April 25, 2025, each flagged establishment was ordered closed after inspectors found threats to public health.
Among the most common problems were unclean equipment and surfaces, food handlers without the required training certificates, ready-to-eat meals held at unsafe temperatures, insect infestations, and staff failing to wear gloves or head covers. To streamline oversight, ADAFSA also rolled out its “Smart Inspection” app, which uses AI and GPS to locate outlets, schedule visits, record findings and share reports instantly.
ADAFSA says these actions reflect its ongoing effort to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s food safety system and protect consumers. The authority urges business owners to follow best practices and members of the public to report any food-related concerns via the toll-free line.
